Oklahoma Sooners football has landed the commitment of Florida defensive lineman Derrick Leblanc.

Oklahoma wasn’t about to let the month end without one more hit on the recruiting trail. And another massive victory for the head coach Brent Venables and Company.

Kissimmee (Florida) Osceola defensive lineman Derrick Leblanc becomes the Sooners’ latest four-star commitment, picking OU on Thursday night.

Leblanc was just three finals away from OU, Penn State and Florida, with most agreeing it was a showdown between the Sooners and Gators.

Maybe once upon a time, it’s a battle the OU doesn’t win, but it’s starting to become the norm around Norman when it comes to defensive rookies. Guys who might not have seemed headed to the Sooners before are now legitimate candidates and high-profile wins.

In the space of three months, Leblanc made three visits to Norman, including an official visit on the weekend of June 3 for the ChampU family barbecue.

Leblanc is another sign of how Venables’ line of thinking can work. OU was the first major official visit as Leblanc traveled to Florida on June 10 and Penn State on June 17, then took the next month to assess and figure things out.

It becomes the No. 8 four-star engagement this month and ninth overall. OU now has 18 total engagements, including nine at four-star ratings and nine at three-star ratings.

Leblanc is an interesting prospect on the road just to find out if he ends up being a defensive end, or with his size, does he end up moving inside. Either way, his band suggests he’ll be effective in every location.

The Sooners started the month ranked in the 40s for the Class of 2023 and are now finishing firmly in the top 10, with perhaps even more good news to come in August.

Leblanc is the second four-star engagement of the week, joining Spanaway (Wash.) Lake cornerback Jasiah Wagoner. And Leblanc is a hell of a way to wrap it up.
